About

Indulging her passion for artisan and vintage textiles, Elizabeth's journey into the world of textile design commenced 7 years ago with the inception of Vintage Stitch Up. Initially offering a collection of handcrafted, limited edition cushions, and aprons, the brand has since expanded to encompass a diverse array of offerings, including furniture, fashion accessories, textile art, and homeware pieces.

Operating from her atelier in Tauranga, New Zealand, Elizabeth personally curates each textile, from sourcing to stitching, allowing the fabric itself to dictate its transformation. Embracing the ethos of slow shopping and mindful creation, she advocates for the appreciation of craftsmanship and the importance of sustainable practices in a throwaway culture.

With a focus on heirloom-quality textiles sourced from around the globe, every piece in the Vintage Stitch Up collection is a testament to meticulous attention to detail and dedication to preserving the art of handmade craftsmanship. Each creation carries with it a unique story, weaving together the threads of tradition, sustainability, and soulful living.

A CONVERSATION WITH LIZ

What's your process for crafting your textiles?

Each textile is personally curated by myself in my Atelier inTauranga , NZ whether that be sourcing, washing, mending, patching, cutting, stitching. Once the textile is ready to cut I look at each textile and let the fabric tell me what it will be. I love seeing what will happen in the moment of creation, the ideas are endless and this is what fills me with joy.

How do you advocate for slow shopping and sustainability in your crafting process?

I am a advocate for slow shopping , stitching, stitching to release stress. I consider the environment and the problems from buying products quickly for speed and convenience. I hope that my customers will take their time to browse my selection of hand made pieces made from the heart and that they will treasure the items they purchase from VSU for a lifetime. With an emphasis on handcrafted items that stand the test of time I believe that buying items with a story to tell, boropouch, grain sack oven mitts to hand woven table runners will bring soul and sustainability to their homes and lives.
